Work to start on sewer replacement in Woolwell

10th January 2020

South West Water will begin work later this month to replace a section of sewer on Tavistock Road in Plymouth to improve the service to residents in the area.

The work represents a £96,000 investment in the wastewater network in Woolwell and will involve replacing around 40 metres of sewer in poor condition to prevent sewer flooding in Woolwell Drive.

In order to complete the work – which will begin on Monday 20 January and finish on Friday 6 March – lane closures will be in place on the inbound lanes on Tavistock Road and Woolwell Road approaching the roundabout, and all closures will be in operation 24/7 throughout the work.

The bus stop and lay-by by the roundabout will also be closed and a temporary bus stop will be in place on the roundabout during this time.

James Howourth, South West Water Project Manager, said: “This vital replacement work will reduce the risk of sewer flooding for residents in Woolwell Drive, some of whom have previously experienced flooding due to the poor condition of the existing sewer.

“Due to the location of the sewer and to maintain the health and safety of the public and our workers, the repair will require some lane closures, however, these will be clearly signed to reduce any impact on road users.

“While it is important we carry out these essential sewer upgrades we will look to complete the work with as little disruption as possible.”
