Delivery and Operations

We’re making big improvements to our region’s infrastructure as part of our commitment to protect and enhance our natural environment.

Investing in the Isles of Scilly

From 1 April 2020 we became responsible for the water and wastewater services on the Isles of Scilly. Our proposed programme of investment will improve the islands services and protect the environment. We will make sure the islands services are in line with standards on mainland UK by 2025 or 2030 in the case of Tresco.

What have we been doing?

  • 90% of the islands' properties are now metered
  • Optimising St Mary's desalination plant
  • Improving communuications through technology
  • Estabilishing an operation team on the islands
  • Enhancing our sampling and monitoring programme to inform our water treatment investment

Making progress on monitoring

Our programme to reduce usage and improve monitoring of storm overflows across our region will help protect and improve our waterways. The majority of storm overflows now have monitoring in place and we're installing monitors on the remainder by the end of 2023.

In 2021 we installed an additional 135 monitors. With this enhanced measurement, the information shows across the region spill duration is down and the average number of spills has reduced.

We already share data with our partners and we're currently looking for ways to increase transparency and access to this information. The data is being used to help target investment and ensure that we're making the improvements which protect our rivers and coastal waters. Through creating additional wastewater treatment and stormwater storage capacity, water quality continues to improve in the South West.

Welcome to WaterFit

WaterFit is a series of commitments, which we’re making so we can all work together for high quality river water, beautiful coastal bathing water, and a sustainable future.

Myth vs reality: How much do you know about our water?

From flushing wet wipes to getting rid of coffee grounds, from where our water comes from, to where it goes, you may be surprised by some of these facts.

Let’s go to the beach

We’re enjoying 100% in bathing water standards across the beaches of Devon and Cornwall, so you can paddle, surf, and even swim all year round. Find out how we achieved it.
