South West Water has beaten off stiff competition from entrants across the region to win an award at the South West final of the National Apprenticeship Awards 2015

The company was chosen as the winner of the Large Employer category in recognition of the outstanding contribution it has made to apprenticeships, and will now be considered for the national finals.

Accepting the award, Head of Employee Development, Nigel Fenn, said: "South West Water is committed to developing a first class apprenticeship programme because we want to invest in the talents of our local workforce and to address our own succession planning requirements.

"Four years on from our first intake, we have 85 apprentices playing a valuable role in the business, bringing fresh perspectives, new skills and new ideas about technology. We have found they are changing team dynamics in really positive ways."

Sue Husband, Director of the National Apprenticeship Service, said: "South West Water has been recognised as winner of Large Employer in the South West and I would like to congratulate them on their achievement. They deserve to be rewarded for their efforts.

"The National Apprenticeship Awards enable talented apprentices and committed employers to receive the recognition they richly deserve. They not only help celebrate the achievements of apprentices and businesses, allowing them to gain the credit for investing in their own futures, but they drive up quality and encourage others to get involved."
