Million pound makeover continues in Exmouth

The final phase of a £1million scheme to improve Exmouth's water and sewerage networks starts later this month.

South West Water is upgrading both drinking water and sewer mains in the town to improve the service to residents.

Work to replace 123 metres of sewer in Ashleigh Road started last month. Ashleigh Road is closed to traffic from Number 15 Ashleigh Road to the junction with Marpool Hill until Friday 11 November. The section of work requiring three-way temporary traffic lights at the junction of Ashleigh Road has been completed.

Work to upgrade 560 metres of ageing water mains in Bradham Lane started earlier this month. Bradham Lane is closed to traffic between its junction with Holland Road and its junction with Salterton Road until Friday 11 November.

Stagecoach will operate their bus services along a diverted route during the work on Bradham Lane. See the Stagecoach website for more information.

The final phase of the project, to upgrade a further 1.1km of sewer between Phear Park pumping station and Jarvis Close, starts on Monday 31 October. This section of pipe was temporarily repaired following a burst which flooded Phear Park in June.

Project manager Andy Young said: "It's very unusual for us to be working on both our drinking water and sewerage networks in the same place at the same time. However, it made sense to coordinate the schemes to run as closely together as we could to minimise disruption to the public and businesses as far as possible.

"We'll be working 12 hours a day, six days a week, to get this last phase completed as quickly as we can."

Between 31 October 2016 and 10 March 2017:

• The cycle path between Marpool Hill and Bradham Lane will be closed
• The cycle lane on Bradham Lane, between 117 Bradham Lane and Salterton Road, will be closed
• The cycle track and footpath from Salterton Road to Cranford Avenue will be closed
• Jarvis Close will be closed to traffic between Number 9 Jarvis Close and Cranford Avenue.

Signed diversion routes for cyclists will be in place (see map, right).

It is anticipated that Cranford Avenue will also be closed between the junctions of Littleham Road and Barnfield Avenue from 2 January to 10 March 2017 (dates to be confirmed, depending on progress) as part of the sewer upgrade.

All local residents affected by any of the schemes have been contacted, as have local schools and other service providers.
