South West Water employee, Brett Walter, was named runner up at the regional finals of this year's Natonal Apprenticeship Awards on Wednesday (19 October).

Brett, who lives in Exeter and works as an accountant for South West Water, was awarded the Highly Commended Advanced Apprentice of the Year at the South West Regional finals of the National Apprenticeship Awards.

Brett joined South West Water's award winning apprenticeship programme in August 2014. Over the last two years he has achieved his AAT Level 2 and 3 qualifications and exceeded expectations with a 100% pass rate while also developing at work. His hard work has resulted in his progression from apprentice to a full time employee as a Capital Assistant Accountant.

Brett is a role model to other young people, and will now become a mentor to the latest group of South West Water apprentices.

Nigel Fenn, South West Water Head of Organisation and Employee Development said: "The apprentice awards seek to honour individuals who are truly committed to learning and progression. In Brett the judges recognised his self-reliance and the outstanding contribution and positive difference he has made to South West Water."
