Repair of burst main on Exeter Road, Newton Poppleford A3052

10th August 2017

South West Water is repairing a burst water main on Exeter Road, Newton Poppleford on the A3052 at Bridge end (EX10 0NQ). The burst was reported to us  this morning.

Temporary two-way traffic lights will be in use while we repair the pipe. These will be manned during peak times.

Due to the intermediate gas main presence for safety reasons we are not permitted to use any mechanical plant within 3m of the gas main. This will mean the water main will need to be dug out by hand, extending the time frame for the repair.

We will re-open the road to normal use as soon as possible to minimise any further disruption to members of the public.
Updates on progress will be issued.

Update: Use of specialist vacuum extractor required due to proximity of gas main, prolonging repair time. Estimate repair to be completed Friday evening once reconnection has taken place.
