Newquay update - 22 October 2018

22nd October 2018

The burst sewer on the cliff top near Esplanade Road in Newquay has been repaired

A five-metre section of damaged pipe, seven metres below ground level, was removed and replaced over the weekend. Work finished late last night (Sunday 21 October).

Yellow Sands Pumping Station is operating normally and the emergency overflow is no longer discharging near Lewennick Cove.

The repair has been challenging due to its location on the cliff top, the depth of the pipe and the large area of damage.

Bathing water sampling has confirmed that there has been no significant risk to bathing water quality.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused and would like to reassure the public that the repair has been made a quickly as possible.

The Environment Agency and Cornwall Council have been kept informed at all times.
