Topsham Road, Exeter: UPDATE 2 March 2018

Work to reinstate Topsham Road in Exeter is due to start tomorrow (Saturday).

The road has been closed to through traffic between School Lane and Burnthouse Lane since a water main burst on Monday 26 February.

 

Today (Friday) Wales & West Utilities finished repairing a gas pipe damaged as we started to prepare the ground for reinstatement.

 

Work to backfill the excavations will start first thing tomorrow morning with resurfacing work to follow.

 

Jo Ecroyd, South West Water’s Customer Services Director, said: “Since Monday evening our staff have been working day and night to repair the burst main on Topsham Road.

 

“Our first priority was to ensure we maintained water supplies to our customers in the area and apart from the time of the initial burst this has been done.

 

“The location of the burst is difficult and freezing temperatures have made the repairs to both our main and the gas pipe more complicated. 

 

“Reinstatement work will start tomorrow, weather permitting, but the resurfacing work is also dependent on the availability of resurfacing material, with many suppliers currently closed due to the weather.

 

“For this reason, we do not know how long the resurfacing work will take but as soon as we know we will update customers.

 

“I’d like to apologise to all our customers for the disruption caused and reassure them that we will do everything we can to complete the reinstatement and reopen the road as soon as possible.”

 

Access is being maintained for residents and businesses. People attending funerals at the Exeter & Devon Crematorium are advised to approach from the city / Burnthouse Lane end of Topsham Road.
