Can I get a discount on water that doesn’t drain to the sewer?

We already give a 5% discount if you are on a meter, for water you use which doesn't return to our sewers, for example garden watering, car or window washing.

If you use a large amount of water outside of your home, you may want to consider paying to have an external sub meter.

Surface water is rainwater that drains from any part of your property (the roof or driveway for example) into our sewers. Most properties have connections to our sewers for the disposal of surface water, but some have other arrangements such as soak-aways.

If you believe that your surface water doesn't enter our sewers, complete our form to apply for a reduction. An example of the reduction to your bill, if you are entitled to a discount is shown below:

(Please note the calculations do not include water charges)

If you are on a meter
From 1st April 2023 the amount of reduction would be based on a lower sewerage volume charge calculation, depending on your usage for example:

10 m3 x £3.2871 sewerage volume charge with surface water drainage (less 5% discount) = £31.23
10 m3 x £2.7671 sewerage volume charge without surface water drainage (less 5% discount) = £26.29

There would also be an additional reduction of £21.79 on your annual sewerage fixed charge if you are not connected to surface water drainage.

There are more details here on how your metered or unmetered bills are calculated.
