We would encourage you to consider replacing lead pipes and any associated plumbing fittings (including solder joints or valves) that may contain lead.

We advise that you buy from reputable suppliers and check that the materials you are purchasing are compliant in Regulations 4 of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999. Regulation 4 compliant products have been independently tested to a strict acceptance criteria and therefore suitable to use on wholesome water provided they are suitable for their intended use

You may need to speak to a plumber. Approved plumbers can be found through WaterSafe or on the Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme WIAPS. Approved plumbers may be able to advise and provide a quote for pipe and fitting replacement work.

By selecting products that are certified by the relevant approval regulations will ensure that your plumbing system is lead free.

Some local authorities provide support with replacement of lead pipes, so it may be worth speaking to them before carrying out any work.
